Why every family should revisit its estate plan in 2026
The federal estate tax exemption has changed several times in the past decade, and further changes are likely. State law has also shifted. A plan that was well-designed in 2018 may no longer produce the intended result.
Beyond tax law, life changes. Children become adults. Marriages happen and, sometimes, end. Businesses grow or are sold. A plan is a snapshot of a moment; families are not.
Our recommendation is simple: review your plan at least every three to five years, or any time there is a significant change in family, assets, or the law. It takes less time than most people expect.
